S. Torallas Tovar (Univ. of Chicago) has presented a report on Swiss excavations at Syene. The new material includes numerous ostraca in different languages (Greek, Coptic, Demotic, Aramaic, Arabic), and three of them are written in Latin. The best preserved one features a letter, whose content can be enlightened by the archaeological context.
