Opificio 26th October 2016

Giuseppina Matino (Napoli ‘Federico II’) presented a selection of more than a dozen Greek texts, ranging from 1st to 10th AD (from an everyday letter to Polybius, from the Acta Apostolorum to Libanius), each endowed with linguistic peculiarities which show various degrees of knowledge of Latin language. Paolo Greco (Napoli ‘Federico II’) has focused instead on Medieval Latin texts, presenting some theories on the relation between written ‘official’ Latin and spoken languages in European early Middle Ages. He used as samples a number of Medieval Latin documents from Cava de’ Tirreni (10th AD).
