M. De Nonno (Univ. of Roma Tre) has presented illustrative quotations of Varro from Latin grammarians, showing his influence especially in phonetic and orthographical matters, gender and declension of words, and parts of speech. Special attention has been devoted to the frequency of Varro in Charisius’ Ars grammatica, particularly evident in the first book, because of the use of terms and sentences. Furthermore, context and habits of quotations imply that many passages of Varronian work in Charisius actually derive from Dubius Sermo of Plinius.
