The relation of Alessandro Garcea provides a broad survey of the use of the Latin in the East by Hellenophones from the second century A.D. to the age of Iustinianus. Through the concepts of «diglossy», «bilingualism», and «multilingualism», used consciously and also critically, the scholar highlights the different (symbolic, official, didactic) uses of the Latin in some specific times and socio-cultural contexts.
